Saturday, June 4th: Surfrider's Great Dune Restoration Project!
We invite you to make a difference. We will be planting natives and removing invasive species in the coastal dunes from 80 - 81st street. Get out of the house and spend a day with old friends and new; bring the kids and enjoy the beach!
WHO:
Surfers, beach lovers, any one who wants o give back to the beach that gives so much to us.
WHAT:
Dune restoration- Planting of native species in the Coastal Dunes between 80th and 81st and Collins.
WHEN: Saturday, June 4th, 2011, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
WHERE:
North Shore Open Space Park , 8100 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33141
(look for the big Surfrider tent near the dunes on 81st Street)
WHY:
Here in South Florida, many of our coastal dunes have become invaded with non-native species dramatically reducing their effectiveness. Healthy dunes are needed not only to retain sand in wind and storm events, but also to provide a unique habitat for plants and animals indigenous to the area. PARKING: Metered spaces & parking lots in the immediate area.
WE'VE GOT: Gloves, healthy snacks, cold water, equipment, training and oversight of the work, waiver forms, and community service credits.
WE NEED: You! Your family and friends who want to enjoy a beautiful morning at the beach! Wear solid shoes.
