October 2026 - NightLAB: Weird Science at Frost Science Museum

By

On Thursday, October 15, Surfrider Miami joined the after-hours excitement at NightLAB: Weird Science at the Frost Science Museum in Miami. The 21+ event brought together community members, scientists, and curious minds for an evening of eerie experiments, themed drinks, and interactive activations from community partners across South Florida.

Surfrider Miami set up a table inside the museum, bringing our ocean conservation mission to a new audience and introducing the Bag Monster to hundreds of guests exploring the museum after dark. The Bag Monster, a costume made entirely of single-use plastic bags, is one of our most powerful tools for sparking conversations about plastic pollution and the impact of single-use plastics on our ocean and coastline.

Events like NightLAB give us the opportunity to connect with people who may not yet be familiar with Surfrider Miami’s work and show them in a hands-on, engaging way why protecting our coast matters. From water quality monitoring to dune restoration and beach cleanups, every conversation we have at events like this helps grow the community of ocean advocates in Miami.

Thank you to Frost Science for including Surfrider Miami as a community partner and for creating a space where science, art, and environmental advocacy can come together.
