Miami's 2025 Blue Water Task Force Annual Report is now available. This report reflects a full year of community-powered water quality monitoring across Miami's beaches, canals, and bay locations, made possible by the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our sponsors.
In 2025, Miami Chapter volunteers collected 1,113 water samples from 27 sites along Biscayne Bay, spanning from Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in the south to Sunny Isles in the north. Samples were collected weekly and processed at the BWTF lab in Miami Beach, providing timely results for weekend recreation.
The monitoring program tests for enterococcus, a fecal bacteria that indicates the presence of human or animal waste. Results are compared to Florida Department of Health standards to help the public know where it is safe to swim, paddle, and recreate.
While many of Miami's ocean beaches showed consistently safe results, several bay and canal sites continue to show elevated bacteria levels. Miami Beach: Parkview/Kayak Launch and Miami: Little River Pocket Park were among the most concerning sites in 2025, with 92% and 86% of samples exceeding state health standards respectively.
This data is critical for identifying chronically polluted sites and advocating for cleaner, healthier waterways across our community.
