In August 2020, the Miami Chapter noticed an outfall at South Pointe Park in Miami Beach did not smell or look right. They began water testing and found consistent elevated results which required a notice to the public so no one would swim or recreate there.
In 2020, Miami chapter activist Annie Tworoger noticed odd smells coming from an outfall pipe in South Beach, she decided to consult with BWTF Lab Director Scott Stripling and start testing that location weekly. Week after week, the enterococcus data was off the charts. When Surfrider activists reached out to City officials and presented their findings, the City quickly took action and installed a permanent sign advising locals and visitors to not swim, wade or recreate in that area.
