Miami Beach was one of the first cities to implement a limited straw ban in 2012. The original ban prohibited plastic straws on the beach and at beachside establishments. Now, the Miami Chapter is encouraging the City to expand their ordinance.
UPDATE: Victory! On July 25th, the Miami Beach City Commission adopted an ordinance expanding their existing straw ban. The new ordinance bans straws on all city beaches, parks, docs, marinas, etc. and also includes plastic stirrers. Additional details.
The Miami Beach City Commission is considering the adoption of an ordinance to expand their existing plastic straw ban. To date, the ban only applies to beaches, but the new ordinance would include all city beaches, parks, piers, docks, marinas, and boat ramps. Additionally, the expanded ban would include plastic stirrers.
