Surfrider is ramping up support for Amendment 9, which will be on the Ballot here in Florida this November.
We’re asking all Chapters to consider campaigning for a Resolution to be passed in their Chapter towns/cities/municipalities/counties.
Here’s what you need to know: Florida Amendment 9, the Ban Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling and also Ban Vaping in Enclosed Indoor Workplaces Amendment, is on the ballot in Florida as a commission referral on November 6, 2018.
A “yes” vote supports this amendment to:
- ban offshore drilling for oil and natural gas on lands beneath all state waters and
- ban the use of vapor-generating electronic devices, such as electronic cigarettes, in enclosed indoor workplaces.
Ban Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling Amendment
Amendment 9 would prohibit drilling, either for exploration or extraction, of oil or natural gas in state waters. This prohibition would include the ocean from shoreline to the outermost boundaries of the state’s territorial seas. The measure would not affect the transportation of oil and natural gas products that were produced outside the state’s waters.
