On May 28, 2025, Surfrider Miami hosted a special screening of Maya and the Wave at O Cinema South Beach. The event brought together members of the ocean and surf community for an inspiring evening focused on courage, perseverance, and breaking boundaries.
Ten years in the making, Maya and the Wave tells the story of Maya, who dreamed of surfing the biggest wave in the world. Despite facing challenges from her body, her mind, and society, she never gave up. She went on to surf the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman in Nazaré, Portugal—twice.
Directed by Stephanie Johnes, this festival favorite explored resilience, determination, and the power of one woman’s vision.
