Every year, the days following the Fourth of July leave Miami's beaches in need of some extra love. That is why Surfrider Miami shows up for what we call the Dirtiest Day of the Year Cleanup, a community effort to remove the debris left behind from holiday celebrations before it makes its way into our ocean and bay.
This year, volunteers gathered at First Street Beach behind Nikki Beach on Sunday, July 5 for a morning of hands-on coastal action. Together, the crew removed 100 lbs of trash from the shoreline, keeping marine debris out of our waters and protecting the ecosystems that depend on a clean coast.
A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and gave their Sunday morning to protect our beach. Special shoutout to Christi, Leigh, Susan, and Steve for lending a hand, and to South Pointe Tavern for generously donating food to fuel our volunteers. Your support makes events like this possible. 💙
The work of protecting our coastline never stops. Stay tuned for upcoming cleanup and restoration events and join us at the next one.
