January 2026 - Miami Beach High Dune Restoration

On Sunday, January 18, we kicked off the new year with a powerful morning of coastal restoration. Surfrider Miami teamed up with the passionate students of the Beach High Surfrider Club for a hands-on dune restoration event on Miami Beach.

Throughout the morning, volunteers came together to remove invasive plants, create space for native vegetation, and strengthen one of our city’s most important natural defenses. Healthy dunes protect our shoreline from erosion, storm surge, and flooding. Taking care of them is essential to building climate resilience in our coastal communities.

Working together at 6th Street in Miami Beach, students, community members, and Surfrider volunteers learned about native plants and the role they play in protecting the coast. From pulling invasive scaevola to clearing litter and shaping the dunes, every action counted.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, put in the work, and helped protect Miami’s coastline. This kind of community-powered action is what creates lasting change.
