Florida’s legislative session just closed with two big wins for clean water and public lands.
The harmful plastic preemption bill that threatened local Styrofoam bans was pulled by its own sponsor, Rep. Meg Weinberger. This advocacy win was powered by public pressure and strong partnerships. We thank Rep. Weinberger for doing the right thing.
A second victory: The state parks protection bill is now headed to the Governor’s desk. If signed, it will prevent development—like golf courses—within Florida’s state parks.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Thank your reps and stay engaged. Your voice matters!
Surfrider Miami is a 100% volunteer-run organization, and we are always looking for helping hands.
Volunteer Coordinator: Friends might describe them as a “matchmaker.” This is one of the most important volunteer positions because we rely on our members to make it all happen.
Co-Treasurer: Must love numbers. Our treasurer is looking for their second half.
Beachfront Co-Lead: If the sight of microplastics breaks your heart, this could be the position for you!
None of these sounds like you? Don’t worry—we’ll take all the help we can get! Check out all of our volunteer opportunities to find the perfect match.
Beach cleanups and dune restorations are hands-on service days that combine team building with tangible environmental impact. They offer organizations and companies a powerful way to connect, support local ecosystems, and take action for a healthier, more resilient coast.
